Saskia and Ger went to Sri Lanka for the second time
A 9 for Singha holidays!Last year of August we wrote on this website that we would certainly visit Sri Lanka again. It did not take long, we just returned from our second visit to this beautiful island. That alone says enough, it is our first visit to a distant destination for a second time. This time it was the fairly undiscovered North and East. What a contrast to the South and West. In Anuradhapura and Mihintale we were on a poya-day, impressive to see how the Sinhalese people experience their faith. In Jaffna we had a hotel on Temple Road and the annual Nallur Festival was underway, which was also impressive. Delft Island: An experience, you go back in time more than 50 years. Snorkeling around Pigeon Island, very busy but worthwhile and in our summer you can easily enter the sea on the east coast, as opposed to the vast majority of the beaches of the South and West coasts. This year, The Gathering in Minneriya Park, brought it in such big herds of elephants, with little ones aged 1-3 months old. Then to the central hilly country: wherever you look you see tea plantations and at a temperature that was almost 20 degrees lower than in the north and east, we were delighted. After 2 weeks, we spent a week relaxing in Tangalle, Galle and Mount Lavinia. Two beautiful train trips made from Nuwara Eliya to Ella (between the tea plantations) and from Galle to Mount Lavinia (along the west coast) were toppers. Our driver Lasitha Fernando was great, had a very nice driving style, we did not feel unsafe for one moment during the hectic traffic. He also spoke English well, knew a lot about his country and knew many restaurants where you could have lunch or dinner. He gave us various tips for our third trip to this Pearl in the Indian Ocean. We do not know yet, but it will happen. This time again, perfect travel organized by Sri Lanka Holiday Specialist on our self-planned route. André knew better at what kind of hotels we catered for and there was plenty of variety between standard, colonial and luxurious accommodations.
Greetings, Saskia & Ger
