Kandy is Sri Lanka's cultural capital
Kandy is the youngest of the three main kingdoms on the island. It is the cultural and spiritual center of the country and the main temple of Sri Lanka, "The Temple of the Tooth" lies beside here on the huge city lake. Kandy is situated in a beautiful location between the mountains at a height of 500 meters. Walk around the lake or enjoy shopping in the little streets around the temple. Once a year, Kandy is the spot for the Esala Perahera. For 10 days, there is a procession of parade through the city daily with elephants, dancers and musicians. The streets is then packed with pilgrims. Ask us for a holiday to Sri Lanka in July or August, we can then tell you the dates on which the Perahera takes place.
