Day 1 Departure to Sri Lanka
The Sri Lanka holiday starts with the flight from your home city. Often you fly with one transfer stop to Sri Lanka. From London there is a daily direct flight to Sri Lanka without stopping. We would like to book the flight for you but you can also book yourself the flight to Sri Lanka. Keep in mind that you arrive the next or the previous day?
Day 2 The Sri Lanka holiday starts with a luxury homestay in Kalutara
The driver will welcome you at the Bandaranaike airport. After the introduction, the driver will take you to the luxurious home stay in Kalutara. Here you can recover from the jet lag. Once you've freshened go on a bullock cart ride through the rubber plantations. In the evening a barbecue is organized by the host family, and you can take a look at the local kitchen. The host family will ensure that you lack nothing.
Day 3 Market visit, Cooking lesson and Boat Safari
Before you go to the market with the host family you take a boat trip in the famous Madhu River. This is an area where you come across mangrove forests where many tropical birds live. During the cruise you sail through the woods and small villages.In the market you can find the most tastiest vegetables and herbs used in the preparation of traditional dishes. After the market visit you cook the most delicious rice and curry with your host family!
Day 4 Via the Dutch start fort to the Rekewa Beach
On the way to Tangalle you visit the Dutch Star Fort in Galle. It is a special place with a pleasant atmosphere. Street and the old Dutch VOC church revive the old times. You stroll to the ocean through streets with old Dutch names. After the visit to Galle we drive to the luxury villa in Tangalle with a private pool! In the Rekawa Beach in Tangalle the sea turtles lay their eggs for centuries . In the evening you go to the beach with a guide. Silently you watch til the turtle lays the eggs completely in a trance and come closeby. Often you are lucky and experience this spectacle. You stay in Tangalle in a luxury villa with private pool.
Day 5 To the Yala National Park where you go out with a ranger!
The Yala National Park is one of the largest national parks in the island. The park borders the ocean and is with predominantly low grown vegetation .You go to the park with a jeep and make an extensive safari. It is one of the parks in Sri Lanka to spot leopards but they will not let you see them easily. Elephants are frequently encountered here but also water buffalo, bears, crocodiles and deer can be spotted.
Day 6 The mountains in Bandarawela
We leave the south coast and drive into the mountains to Bandarawela. In the beginning you see some tea plantations and at some point you only see tea plantations fully. On the way to Little Adams Peak We pass Ravana Falls, one of the most famous waterfalls in Sri Lanka. You make a nice walk to the top of Little Adam's Peak. You walk around the tea plantations and through small villages. It's a short but steep climb to the top where the panoramic view is fantastic.You stay in Bandarawela in a colonial bungalow.
Day 7 A walk through the Horton Plains and an exciting tuk-tuk ride through the tea plantations
Early wake up today! You make a walk on the plateau Horton Plains. You walk to the Bakers Falls waterfall and the Worlds End viewpoint . In the afternoon you go by tuk tuk to the tea plantations. You visit a Tamil village during the tuk tuk ride and meet the tea pluckers. You will be taught on tea plucking and you may then try yourself!
Day 8 With the train to Kandy
You drive through the tea area to Nanu Oya. Nanu Oya is near Nuwara Eliya and if there is enough time a visit is recommended to the colonial Nuwara Eliya. Often, the train journey from Nanu Oya to Kandy is named as one of the highlights. You drive through tea plantations, over wooden bridges, through tunnels, pass waterfalls and deserted stations. It is the place to go and talk with the friendly locals. In Kandy you visit a ceremony in the temple of the tooth in the evening. This is the main temple of Sri Lanka where many Sri Lankans pilgrim daily. You will stay in Kandy in your own villa with a private swimming pool.
Day 9 Sightseeing in Kandy
In Peradeniya, near Kandy, you visit the Botanical Garden. In the botanical garden you will find more than 4,000 different species of plants. It is next to the longest river of Sri Lanka, the Mahaweli river. You can decide how you fill in the rest of the afternoon. Perhaps a visit to the indoor market or just relax by your swimming pool?
Day 10 You visit the cave temple of Dambulla and make a jeep safari in the Minneriya national park
Dambulla is a rock temple with a numerous Buddha images and extraordinary cave paintings. In the caves you will find more than 150 murals and hundreds of Buddha images. It's a nice climb to the temple which is located on a mountain. At the the temple you have a breathtaking view. Thereafter we drive to the Minneriya National Park. The Minneriya National Park is one of the parks where you have a good chance of spotting elephants. In August and September, the 'great elephant migration' happens. During this period, huge herds walk through the park looking for food and water on the way to the Minneriya tank.
Day 11 An absolute highlight, the lion rock in Sigiriya!
In the morning when it is not still very warm, we leave to the Lion Rock Sigiriya. Halfway up the lion rock you will find 5th century frescoes. The last part is quite a challenge but is rewarded with a stunning view. On top of the rock you will find remnants of the castle and the swimming pool of King Kassapa. Day 12 Via the old city Polonnaruwa we are riding to the tropical beach in Nilaveli
You visit the ancient royal city of Polonnaruwa in the morning. When you visit the museum you get a good impression of the scale of this ancient city. Polonnaruwa has many stupas and remains of an ancient and a rich culture. Huge Buddha statues are carved in rocks. Watch out for your belongings because there are cheeky monkeys walking around here. In the Vatadage you have a beautiful moonstone and a huge circle with Buddha statues. We drive to the luxury villa that is located in the beach of Nilaveli.
Day 13 and 14 Relaxing days in the beach of Nilaveli
During our summer holidays, Nilaveli in the each coast of Sri Lanka becomes an ideal place for a beach stay. The sea is calm so you can dip in the water and there is less wind. A great place to chill out for a few days.
Day 15 You end your Sri Lanka holiday in a luxury villa in Negombo.
A long journey to the West Coast today. You'll spend the last night in Sri Lanka in the fishing town of Negombo. Negombo is a vibrant city where you have many shops and restaurants
Day 16 The Sri Lanka Holiday is over today. You are going back home.
Unfortunately your Sri Lanka holiday ends today. Your driver brings you to the airport where you say good bye to him.
