Sri Lanka family classic 2018
During this Sri Lanka family holiday you are going to see much of Sri Lanka with the whole family. Enjoy two weeks.A relaxed start at the sea, visit temples in a tuk-tuk, a bullock cart ride and rafting. Your are also going on safari and having a BBQ in the nature. If you have more time then you can reserve few days in the East coast. Then you can spot whales in Nilaveli.

Day 1 Depature to Sri Lanka
You are departing for your Sri Lanka family holiday and arrive the following day in the island. You would not be bored because in many flights you get your own TV screen which has a wide variety of movies and games on board. We are always choosing a flight with a pleasant connections because you are changing also one more time to another air plane during your journey.
Day 2 Luckily it is not so much far away to Waikkal
In the airport there are many chauffeurs waiting for their passengers.Your chauffeur will identify you without much effort. He has a board with him with your name on it. Together with him you ride to Waikkal which is only 30 minutes away. You stay two night in the hotel Ranweli resort. The hotel lies in the beach with a spit stretching towards the sea. This hotel has a swimming pool and is to be reached by a small ferry.
Day 3 Visit Negombo and relax in Waikkal
When you wake up, sea is to be seen from your window. Probably the sea is full with fishing boats. In Negombo, which lies close by, they use catamarans for this purpose. You travel to Negombo today with the chauffeur to learn more about the city. You make a city tour and visit surely the fish market. you make a boat tour on the lagoon and see the environment from the water. This evening you will also stay in Waikkal.
Day4 We are riding to Sigiriya where we climb the rock in the afternoon
We are riding to Sigiriya. On the way there is enough to see. You pass along rice fields and sometimes share your way with a stray buffalo. Sigiriya is a rock fortress built in the 5th century AD. This lion rock is a massive hill which rises approximately 200 meter above the jungle.Earlier, there were the royal gardens around the rock. When you climb halfway there is a cave with wall paintings. The real heroes climb further to the top through the last stretch where once the castle of King Kassapa was. Your hotel is located here in the middle of the jungle of Sigiriya and has a nice swimming pool.
Day 5 After a village visit, you are going on excursion to Polonnaruwa
You visit a small village and make a ride on a bullock cart. Also you go the lake on a paddle boat. You lunch with a local family. In the afternoon you go with a tuk-tuk, a three-wheel taxi, to see the temples and statues at Polonnaruwa. Your journey time is approximately one hour. Polonnaruwa has the remains of the royal palace. The Gal Viharaya is known for the huge Buddha statues which are carved from granite rock. Among the different visits you'll get companionship of monkeys. Beware, they can be a bit cheeky. Also just watch out for the correct tuk-tuk which was yours.
Day 6 From Sigiriya we are riding to Kandy
On the way to Kandy we stop at the largest fruit and vegetable auction of Sri Lanka. You visit also the Dambulla rock temple. In the afternoon we arrive in Kandy. Around the city lake is the main temple of the country, the Temple of the Tooth. Every evening there is a ceremony and you can walk along a golden pyramid where the tooth of Buddha is situated here below. You will see that you are not the only one who do that. There are numerous pilgrims from all over the island too. You'll spend two nights in an old colonial bungalow in the outskirts of Kandy. You will stay with the family who lives there.
Day 7 Market visit, Cooking lesson and in the afternoon Kandy sightseing
You go with the owner of the Kandyan Manor to the road. Sometimes you make an extra visit in their rice fields and then go to the market to choose what you like to eat. Then you cook this with his wife and make the most delicious rice and curry! After lunch you go to the city with your driver. In the late afternoon you visit the ceremony in the Temple of the Tooth.
Day 8 Today the sign is for elephants and their adventure in the water.
ia Pinnawela we drive today to Kitulgala. Pinnawela is famous for the elephant orphanage. Now there are as many as 60! Often there are young animals and bathing of the elephants in the nearby river is a spectacle. The animals are washed and are playing with each other and diving in the jungle on the other side of the river. Often it is busy here and there are also buses with Sri Lankan school children. You drive to Kitulgala further where your eco resort is located right next to the river. Here you go rafting! Go from relaxing to exciting depending on the water level.d!
Dag 9 Today up to the mountains and the train ride to Ella.
We leave Kitulgala and drive further into the mountains. Along the way you come across small villages and if you want to stop for a moment so you can do so for example to see a small village temple. The closer you come to Nuwara Eliya the more there will be tea plantations.. We visit one of these tea factories. In the afternoon you take the train to Ella. You come to Ella in the late afternoon. You'll spend two nights in one of the few hotels with a swimming pool. All hotels have a beautiful view.
Day 10 Today you can fill the day in your own manner in Ella.
Today, the choice is yours! Would you like to get up early to go to the Horton Plains then you are getting up way before sunrise for the best view. Would you walk but not get up early, this can be also done in Ella. A nice hike to Little Adam's Peak and a challenge to the Ella Peak! Of course you can also relax by the pool and have lunch at this backpackers village.
Day 11 A Sri Lanka holiday without a safari is no holiday
We leave Ella and follow the winding road down from the mountains. Udawalawe national park is a park located in the foothills of the mountainous and hilly landscape around a large lake. Here you will find surely elephants. Near the hotel there is also a center for trapped or injured animals and are escorted back to nature. If we have time we visit this too. Anyway, you go on a jeep safari in the park. You spend the night in safari tents. In the evening there is often a BBQ next to the river until until late with a campfire.
Day 12 On the way to the golden beaches of Mirissa
On the way to the south coast! We drive today to Mirissa in the beautiful south coast of Sri Lanka. Mirissa is a small fishing village. There are a few small accommodations here directly facing the sea. On the beach there are wooden huts which have been converted into restaurants which offer tasty fresh fish ! When you think of a tropical bay Mirissa gives the best answer to that image. Palm trees stretch to the golden beach and the blue sea. Your hotel here is one of the larger hotels with much facilities.
Day 13 Mirissa
Relax the whole day in the beach of Mirissa.
Dag 14 Via Galle rijden we je naar Waikal of Colombo
You visit the Galle Dutch star fort. In the fort you come across many things that remind you of the time when Dutch East India Company employees lived here. In the church you walk literally through the Dutch history. Street names recall Amsterdam and Akersloot. Half an hour north of Galle is the tsunami museum in Telwatta. The museum has been established with the help of Dutch people. The museum hosts pictures just after the disaster, the reconstruction process and drawings by the children from the village. You may choose. We book a standard city hotel in the bustling Colombo. If you rather prefer another night on the beach in Waikkal let us know!
Day 15 Transfer to the Airport. End of the holiday in Sri Lanka.
Unfortunately the Sri Lanka holiday is almost over. We drive you back to the airport and you say goodbye to your chauffeur guide. Several hours later, you leave Sri Lanka to your home.
Extension Beach stay in the East Coast.
Extension East Coast.
This hoiday can be extended a few days by staying on the East Coast in Nilaveli. During our summer the sea is pleasantly calm and you can snorkel around Pigeon Island and even dive there. Real adventurers go to sea with a small boat to spot the whales present there.
Day 5- 8 (During summer) We drive you to the east coast for a few days beach stay (3 nights) and then continue the program as mentioned above.
