Day 1 Your Sri Lanka holiday starts with a flight
Today you begin your Sri Lanka holiday with your flight to Sri Lanka . This can be a direct flight on some days. Every day there are several flights to Sri Lanka with a transfer. We would like to book the flight for you but you can also book your flight yourself to Sri Lanka. Keep your mind that you only arrive with a day difference!
Day 2 Your holiday in Sri Lanka starts in Negombo
Negombo is conveniently close to the airport. So after arriving you do not have to sit long in the car but you are soon in your first hotel. We book a nice simple guesthouse for you in Negombo. The guesthouse is located a bit outside of Negombo in the green interior. Here you can relax the first two nights.
Day 3 Relaxing day in your guesthouse in Negombo
Today you can relax in your hotel swimming pool. In about 10 minutes you are in the beach with a tuk tuk (local tricycle) . The center of Negombo with shops is also about 10 minutes from your guesthouse.
Day 4 On the way to Habarana, you visit the Pinnawela elephant orphanage.
You are on the way to Habarana where you stay in a nice hotel with a nice green garden. In Pinnawela we visit the elephant orphanage. Two times a day, the elephants are coming to the nearby river and get a bath. You can view this sight as a visitor. It's a great sight to see how the elephants sometimes walk completely to the other side of the river, the jungle and come back to play with one another.
Day 5 You visit Polonnaruwa and in the afternoon go on a jeep safari
You visit the ancient royal city of Polonnaruwa in the morning. When you first visit the museum you get a good idea of the size of this ancient royal city. Scattered across the vast terrain are the temples, the royal palace and the Buddha statues. Minneriya National Park is one of the parks where you have a good chance to spot elephants. if you travel there 'in August and September you are sure to see the ''great elephant migration" . Huge herds are attracted through the park in search of food and water. Stay in Habarana.
Day 6 It is best to climb Sigiriya in the morning.
We leave for the nearby Sigiriya. You can visit there the lion rock. Halfway through the rock you will find 5th century frescoes. The last part of the climb is quite challenging! On top you will find the remains of the castle and the swimming pool of King Kassapa. You have a beautiful view of the green jungle here. You'll spend one last night in Habarana.
Day 7 We ride further to your eco lodge in Digana
The Dambulla Rock Temple is near your hotel . You'll visit the temple where you find various caves where some 150 Buddha statues and many rock paintings are existent. Then we drive to Digana where you arrive in the afternoon. Tomorrow you go out with a guide from the hotel to explore the area
Day 8 Trekking with a guide including the lunch with a local family
You depart from the resort and walk across jungle paths through the nearby village across the beautiful green countryside. Your guide can tell you much about the plants and animal life. You will not get bored with beautiful views of the lake and rice fields. If the school in the village is open we can see if it's open for visit. We take lunch with a local family. During the afternoon you'll be back at the resort.
Day 9 We visit the temple of the tooth in Kandy
According to your holiday program we drive you hereafter to a Ayuverdic center a bit outside Kandy.In fact it is not so far from the eco lodge where you stayed.Visit the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. This is the main temple of Sri Lanka. Everyday there is a ceremony in acount of the tooth of Buddha. The center where you stay is an oasis of tranquility in the middle of nature. This is not a standard hotel but a Ayuverdic center where rest and relaxation is signified.
Day 10 You go on trekking in the Knuckles mountain range, a unique region.
The Knuckles mountain range is a rough nature terrein bordering mountains in the form of your fist (Knuckles), but also with small villages and tea plantations. Even we saw jackals and foxes walk here. With a guide you can explore this rugged terrein. You are here in the middle of the silent nature of Sri Lanka.
It is an area that certainly is not done in every holiday. Many tourists will not come here. We'll show you the other side of Sri Lanka.
Day 11 Today we make a journey to Kitulgala and tomorrow wer are rafting
Today you have a travel day, although the distance is actually not pretty bad. You are therefore in the course of the afternoon already in Kitulgala. Here you will stay in an eco resort right next to the river. Sometimes in a tree house and sometimes in a wooden chalet. This is a basic accommodation and rooms are sometimes partly in open connection with nature. Of course there is a good mosquito net provided. But who does not want to fall asleep to the sound of the river as background noise.
Dag 12 'In the morning we are going to raft and thereafter go to Ratnapura
Rafting is good to do for everyone with good health. Depending on the water level it is relaxing or challenging! We drive you thereafter to the area of the Sinharaja rain forest where you stay in a nice boutique hotel by a lake. Tomorrow ,during this holiday, you will learn real Sri Lanka cooking.
Day 13 With a local family we cook rice and curry
This morning you go to a local family and learn how traditional rice and curry is prepared. Indeed you will help to prepare your own lunch. After lunch you leave again and you can relax a part of the day by the swimming pool of your hotel. The hotel rooms are spread out in a beautiful garden near the lake.
Day 14 You visit a tea plantation on the way to Singharaja
Tea plantations are not only grown high in the mountains as you can see here. You visit a tea plantation on the way to the Sinharaja rain forest. You have low, mid and high tea plantations in Sri Lanka. The best tea comes from the highest plantations and the silver tips are on top of the bill.
But the tea from the lower areas is also of good quality. Maybe you can save yourself by indulging in plucking some tea leaves. In the afternoon you arrive at your basic eco- lodge in the middle of the rain forest.
Day 15 You explore the rain forest with a guide
Most guides leave to the rain-forest early morning or during the afternoon. You will then have the best chance of spotting the animals in the rain-forest. We have a multitude of bird species here. Most guides know them by heart and they see it before you have spotted something. Also,reptiles are often seen here.
During the trek, It is useful to have closed shoes because it is humid here and shoes gives more protection. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 16 On the road to The Dutch start fort of Galle
Your Sri Lanka holiday goes on to the south coast as you visit the Dutch star fort in Galle. It's a special place in this old fort. Beautiful boutique hotels, restaurants, an old Dutch church, Dutch street and quaint little shops make room for a pleasant atmosphere. You stay on the outskirts of Galle in a colonial hotel with also a European colonial atmosphere.
Day 17 Today you choose what you want to do
Your hotel is located between Galle and the beautiful bay of Unawatuna in. You can easily find a tuk tuk again visit the Galle fort and you are there in about 10 minutes. Around the corner is the beautiful tropical bay of Unawatuna. Here a relaxed atmosphere dominates. You can easily enjoy a day on the beach here and you are fine with your feet on the sand eating a fish. That's yet another holiday.
Day 18 On the way to Bentota, you do a boat trip
You'll leave Galle and we drive you along the west coast to Bentota. We pass the massive Madu Ganga river. We stop here and you make a boat trip on the river and along its many branches. This is also the area where you see mangrove forests. There are many beautiful birds flying around the lake.
In the course of the afternoon we arrive at your nice boutique hotel in Bentota.
Day 19 Relaxing day in Bentota
This is a place where you can relax in a pleasant way and also yo have ample time to see all the photos that you have taken in leisurely.
Day 20 Surely you are ending the Sri Lanka holiday on the beach.
Your Sri Lanka holiday ends its course on the beach! We drive you today to Negombo where your hotel lies right on the beach. You're here early in the afternoon and you have much time also to relax in your last days before flying back home.
Tomorrow you have the whole day free to enjoy.
Day 21 Relax day in Negombo
If you do not want to lie all day at beach or the pool, Negombo is an ideal place to discover. You're in the vibrant town quickly with a tuk-tuk where you have many shops and a small fruit market. Negombo has lots of gold traders, where all shops are literally by side of one street. If you get up early, it is nice to visit the fish market. You can see how the fish is dried on the beach.
Day 22 Unfortunately your Sri Lanka holiday is going to end today
