You'll visit the cultural triangle of the island and the main temple of the country, the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. Also, you do not miss the Dutch star fort in Galle. We golf in beautiful courses of Kandy and in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 1 You depart to Sri Lanka
On your first day you start your Sri Lanka holiday from your selected airport to Sri Lanka.
Day 2 Airport - Negombo
After arrival in the airport, you are being brought to your hotel in Negombo. You are going to be picked up by your chauffeur for your Sri Lanka holiday. The hotel in Negombo is directly lying next to the sea and is a part of the Small luxury hotels of the world. This is a fine place to adjust yourself to tropical Sri Lanka.
Day 3 Negombo - Sigiriya
You leave early in the direction of Sigiriya. The famous Lion Rock Sigiriya, like a sky tower, is to be seen in the landscape before you reach it. Around the rock layers were the living quarters of the common people while the king lived in a castle on top. Halfway through your climb upwards you pass old frescoes from the 5th century. Moving along a staircase suspended from the rock you'll end up at the ruins of the castle, and be rewarded with a beautiful view of the surroundings. Then we bring you back to your hotel in Dambulla.
Day 4 Dambulla - Polonnaruwa - Dambulla
Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka built in the 11th and 12th century AD. It is a world heritage site. Your visit here the remains of the royal palace and the Gal Viharaya. Of course you also visit the museum where you get a good picture of the history of this kingdom. Among the different sites you'll definitely get the companionship of the many monkeys that live here. Beware with your foo because they can sometimes be brutal. You make a jeep safari in the Minneriya National Park. This is a natural park with wetlands at the edge of a water tank. Wild elephants, jackals, monkeys, many species of birds and a variety of other animals live in three interconnected parks, Minneriya, Eco park and Kaudulla.
Day 5- Dambulla - Kandy
We visit the Dambulla rock temple before leaving the area. Inside this temple you will find a huge amount of images and impressive wall paintings. At the end of the day you arrive in Kandy. Kandy is the center of traditional culture. The town has a beautiful lake and next to it is the "Temple of the Tooth." This temple, which according to tradition is having a tooth of Buddha, is the most venerated temple of Sri Lanka and well worth a visit. Kandy is known by many as one of the most beautifully situated cities in Asia. The market of Kandy, located near the bus station, is a landmark. A walk around the lake provides a beautiful view of the temple and the city. You'll spend three nights in Kandy.
Day 6 and 7 Kandy
The Victoria Golf Club was opened in 1999. The British introduced the golf in Sri Lanka not for nothing. Sri Lankan Amateur golf championships are almost the oldest in the world and this shows the glamor of golf. The Victoria golf course is located about 20 km outside of Kandy in the beautiful mountains of the Knuckles Range and it offers many beautiful views of the nearby lake. The journey to the golf course takes half an hour from Kandy. You play in a course beautifully situated between rocks, water, palm and coconut trees. You have the entire 18 holes available for yourself with your caddy, who will assist you with good advice when playing at the course. At the golf club there are also opportunities for swimming, hiking or horseback riding. Today you stay in Kandy.
Day 8 Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
You'll be taken to the Kandy station where the train departs towards Nuwara Eliya. You make a beautiful train ride through typical Sri Lankan villages, over wooden bridges, passing waterfalls and through the growing number of tea plantations. Curiously the Sri Lankan people will try to talk an English word with you and try to lure you to buy something from the vendors on the train. The trip interchanges from one beautiful vista to another. This is a journey that is often mentioned as a highlight in the holiday in Sri Lanka. You'll spend three nights in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 9 and 10 Nuwara Eliya
You have today and tomorrow the opportunity to get to know the beautiful Nuwara Eliya golf club. The club is interwoven throughout the town and you can walk to it easily. This club was founded in 1891 by wealthy English tea planters. Their motto was spero meliora or "I hope for better." In the nearby Hill Club you can still taste the old Victorian atmosphere that is still preserved here in all its old glory. Nuwara Eliya or the "city of light" had become a former spa in the mountains for the rich British tea planters. This atmosphere is still there to be tasted and to see the English influence. While playing you will notice that the golf course is used by more than just golfers.
Day 11 Nuwara Eliya - Ella
While on your route towards the south of Sri Lanka, you make a stop to stay in Ella. In this mountainous area we walk through tea plantations to Little Adam's Peak. During clear weather you can view here all the way to the southern coastline. A beautiful environment is characterized by the tea plants grown on many slopes. You are staying in a luxury eco resort overlooking Little Adam's Peak. Stay today in Ella.
Day 12 Ella - Galle
Today we make the long journey to Galle in southern Sri Lanka. We descend from the mountains on a winding road towards the coast, with frequent waterfalls with bathing people on the way.Then we get into the flat land in the coastal strip. Through Matara (where a Dutch star fortress is) we drive along the busy road along the coast until we arrive at your hotel in Galle in the afternoon. Along the way you'll pass the place where the famous stilt fishermen are fishing along the coast. You can visit not only the Galle star fort but also stay there one night within the walls of the fort. You have plenty of time to walk through the narrow streets and visit the Dutch Reformed Church.
Day 13 Galle - Bentota
Via a visit to the tsunami museum on the way to Bentota, we ride today along the west coast. Your hotel lies In Bentota on a landspit where you end your holiday with a number of days on the beach.
Day 14 and 15 Bentota
You will spend these days of your Sri Lanka holiday in a luxury hotel in Bentota. Bentota has a narrow spit of land that lies between the sea and a large lagoon and this is where the river flows into before flowing into the sea. Most hotels on this small peninsula have a ferry service across the lagoon to the mainland but there are also tuk-tuks which will bring you to the town on the other side of the lagoon. Bentota itself is a lively place with Sri Lankan shops and a busy bus station. A fine place to relax on the beach for two days before you depart.
Day 16 Bentota - Airport
Unluckily you have your return flight today. Your chauffeur brings you back to the airport where your return journey begins.
